Our son's birthday was approaching and we wanted something special without spending a fortune. Here's how we organized a memorable party at home!
Planning (3 weeks before)
Choose the Theme
We let our son choose: pirates! A theme makes all the rest of the planning easier.
Guest List
Simple rule: number of years = number of guests. For his 7th birthday, 7 friends invited.
Preparation (1 week before)
Invitations
Make them yourself on Canva (free). Kids love receiving them!
Decorations
DIY as much as possible:
- Balloons (bought in bulk)
- Crepe paper garlands
- Posters drawn by the kids
- Printed pirate flags
Cake
Homemade in the shape of a pirate ship. Imperfections are part of its charm!
Party Schedule (3 hours)
2:00 PM - Welcome
Each child receives a pirate bandana and temporary tattoo.
2:30 PM - Treasure Hunt
The classic! 10 clues hidden in the garden leading to the treasure chest.
3:30 PM - Snack Time
Cake, fruit juice (pirate rum!), candy.
4:00 PM - Free Activities
Games in the garden, drawing, building.
5:00 PM - Goodie Bags
Small themed gifts for each guest.
